BRAD WANDS

Head Coach (17U)

Coach Wands grew up in Satellite Beach, Florida and played four years of varsity baseball at Melbourne Central Catholic (MCC) High School. He earned First Team All-State honors as a junior and senior, leading his team to the FHSAA State Final Four Tournament. Coach Wands was inducted into the MCC Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006.

 

Coach Wands played college baseball at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he set career records in hits and stolen bases. He was named Rookie of the Year, Best Offensive Player, and Best Defensive Player throughout his time at Emory, and helped lead his team to three consecutive NCAA Regional appearances. Coach Wands earned First Team All-Conference honors in 1996, 1997 & 1998, and Second-Team All-Region in 1998. In 2018, the University Athletic Association named Wands to the All-Association 30th Anniversary Baseball Team.

 

Coach Wands served as an assistant coach for the Lima Locos in the Great Lakes Collegiate Summer Wooden Bat League in Lima, Ohio. He also served as an assistant coach at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. Coach Wands is an active member of the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Coach Wands coached 12 seasons in Scott County Youth Baseball (SCYB), and five seasons of SCYB All-Stars. He coached the SCYB 11U All-Star Team to a 24-3 record in 2019, winning four tournament championships including the Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken League Eastern Kentucky State Tournament and finishing runner up in the Ohio Valley Regional Tournament. 

Coach Wands also coached four seasons at Royal Spring Middle School and helped lead the Titans to the Bluegrass Middle School Athletic Association 8th grade conference tournament championship in 2022 and the 7th grade regular season conference championship in 2019.

Coach Wands has helped coach the Mavericks since the organization's inception, and has served as the head coach of the current Mavericks 17U team for the previous five seasons.
